Artist Andrew Spear at Bold Hype Gallery
Attended the opening for Andrew Spear’s solo show at Bold Hype in Orlando Florida on Saturday. He is an amazingly talented artist working in large scale colored pencil portraits that look like paintings. His subject matter is almost entirely sexy women, many of which appear to be “bad girl” types. His work is edgy and cool with an album cover feel to them. Andrew Spear is also a nice guy with a stylish persona.

The black and white image in the poster (above) was also painted in a huge mural on the gallery wall.

A vignette in the corner of the gallery. Image on the left was painted directly on the wall by Andrew Spear. It took him a week.
Bold Hype showcased Andrew Spear's work with a 70s theme furniture setup complete with vintage stereo system.
Here is Andrew Spear’s bio: Born and raised in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Andrew attended the Art Institute of Boston, and later transferred to the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Although colored pencil was discouraged by his professors, Spear continued to master the medium. By expanding the sizes of his pieces, Spear proves colored pencil to be as appropriate as paint or any other medium. Spear lived in San Francisco and then New York City, where his artistic career took off. Now residing in Orlando, Florida, Spear is the co-owner of Metro Finishes, a high-end faux and mural company. Since moving to Orlando, Spear has shown in San Francisco, New York City, and Detroit, and has future shows planned for L.A. and Atlanta.
